Accepting the Responsibility for Discipling Nations

Your Divine Responsibility

It is your responsibility to disciple your family, friends, and the world at large. This is not merely a suggestion but a divine assignment that comes with every believer's calling.

Fundamentally, the people you meet on daily basis are opportunities presented to you by God to witness to them. Every encounter is divinely orchestrated for the advancement of God's kingdom.

The Wisdom of Soul Winning

Scripture declares the value and wisdom of soul winning:

"The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise." (Proverbs 11:30 NKJV)

Our assignment starts with getting people to put their faith in Jesus Christ for salvation. Afterwards, we must ensure they are trained and mentored in that new life they have received.

God is giving us responsibility to raise men to be like Jesus. To nurture them unto maturity. Every one of us is meant to be running discipleship programs.

The Eternal Reward for Disciplers

"Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those who turn many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever." (Daniel 12:3 NKJV)

Paul's Commission: A Model for All Believers

Paul's encounter with Christ reveals the nature of our commission:

"While thus occupied, as I journeyed to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests, at midday, O king, along the road I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, shining around me and those who journeyed with me. And when we all had fallen to the ground, I heard a voice speaking to me and saying in the Hebrew language, 'Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.' So I said, 'Who are You, Lord?' And He said, 'I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you. I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.'" (Acts 26:12-18 NKJV)

The Spiritual Blindness We Address

"Whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them." (2 Corinthians 4:4 NKJV)

Every child of God is sent to open the eyes of the people in the world. The goal is not to fraternize with them or see them as helpers of our destiny. We are the ones sent to them.

Recognizing Divine Appointments

Sometimes, these people that God sent us to are already ripe for harvest to the extent that they request to see the light specifically from us at times, not realizing we are the light they are looking for. However, for the unwillingness to lose the connection, we keep shut. That is not the kind of expectation God has of us.

God's Provision Through Obedience

"And He said to them, 'When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?' So they said, 'Nothing.'" (Luke 22:35 NKJV)

Jesus did not give His disciples everything they needed when He sent them out. He only gave them the Word. Their needs were met when they stayed obedient to the Word that they had been given.

You Are the Light They Seek

You carry the light the unbelievers are looking for. Jesus made this clear:

"Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house." (Matthew 5:15 NKJV)

They may hate you until they need you. They may hate you in the public, but they will eventually come for you in the private. You have what they need.

"You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden." (Matthew 5:14 NKJV)

God's Intention Through Us

The intention of God is to use us so as to turn people from the power of Satan unto God. This is the same commission Jesus received and now passes to us:

"As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world." (John 17:18 NKJV)

Jesus set the example for completing assignments:

"I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do." (John 17:4 NKJV)

Now He passes this mission to us:

"So Jesus said to them again, 'Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.'" (John 20:21 NKJV)

No Special Ordination Required

You do not need any special ordination before you are being sent of God. Jesus already commissioned us all through His Word. He has done His and succeeded by the power of the Holy Spirit. Now, it is our turn.

Ambassadors for Christ

"That is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God." (2 Corinthians 5:19-20 NKJV)

The Reality of the Assignment

Sometimes, there is no guarantee of a rosy future on earth while following Jesus. Determination to fulfill the assignment must be received as grace from God.

Paul exemplified this commitment:

"But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God." (Acts 20:24 NKJV)

The call to faithfulness applies to every believer:

"And say to Archippus, 'Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it.'" (Colossians 4:17 NKJV)

As the light of the world and ambassadors for Christ, we carry the solution to humanity's greatest need. Through obedience to God's Word and reliance on the Holy Spirit, we can fulfill our commission to open eyes, turn hearts from darkness to light, and raise up disciples who will continue this eternal work of reconciliation.
